Biography.
Jonathan Garrett “Slinky J” Nash, 1988 to 2020. Deep Valley, Oceanside.
He was the Nate Dogg of North County. A smooth singer with a voice built for hooks, he made other people’s records better by being on them, and the shape of his catalogue is the proof: almost every record he appears on belongs to someone else and is built around him. That is a specific kind of artist, and there was one of him here.
The record runs from 2019 and has not closed yet: YT West on “Rollin In My Ride”, LonelyBoi and YT West on “North County Gangstaz”, Static2Fresh on “Say To Me”, Guap The Hustler on “California”, and “Active N Tha Streets” alongside Don 3, Rae and 2MuchFinessse.
In Deep Valley he was a figure before he was a feature. He was close to T Nasty, 2MuchFinessse, Corrion and Young Getty, and he came by: to lend an ear, to give his time, to whoever needed it. He was loyal, he was honest, and he was the centre of attention from the moment he walked into a room. Charming with the women, immovable when things got real. People organised their nights around whether he was coming.
He was buried at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside. The neighbourhood he came from is small enough that a loss like that does not disperse, and six years on the artists on this roster still name him.
Most of the catalogue was released after he died and it has not stopped. “California” came out in October 2021 marked RIP. The most recent record carrying his verse arrived in April 2026. Deep Valley still feels him, and North County still does.
North County street rap — features, hooks and a presence other people built records around.
